Accomplished Public Policy Advisor to Expand Legislative Affairs Practice

WASHINGTON, D.C. - December 20, 2005 – The Glover Park Group, a leading strategic communications company, announced today that Susan Brophy has joined as Partner in its Legislative Affairs Division. In this role, she will oversee legislative strategy, coalition management, corporate positioning, Member education, and issue advocacy.

"Susan brings the unique perspective of having managed public policy interests of the White House, Senate offices, a European embassy post and the corporate board room. In addition to her knowledge and experience with a range of domestic issues and international trade policy, she has most recently been on the frontlines of the rapidly evolving media industry and its effort to grapple with complex intellectual property issues," said Chip Smith, Managing Partner at The Glover Park Group. "With her wide-ranging public policy acumen, she is well suited to lead the legislative affairs practice and we are delighted to have her on board."

Prior to Glover Park Group, Brophy was a senior vice president in Time Warner’s Global Public Policy office in Washington, DC. Before Time Warner, Brophy lived in Lisbon, Portugal with her husband, Gerald McGowan, the U.S. Ambassador to Portugal. There, Brophy oversaw the coordination of the visits of President Clinton, several bipartisan Congressional delegations, Cabinet officers and other dignitaries. During this period, she also served as a board member of the Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations. She has also served at the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs (1993-1998) as well as the director of congressional relations for the Clinton-Gore transition office (1992-1993).

Brophy came to the Clinton campaign after serving as chief-of-staff to Colorado Senator Timothy E. Wirth and as administrative assistant to then-Congressman (now Senator) Byron L. Dorgan of North Dakota. Prior to that, she was national political coordinator and deputy director of delegate selection for the Dukakis/Bentsen campaign. She previously served as policy director of the Democratic National Committee.

Brophy received a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire and an M.P.A. from Harvard University.
