Ryan Cunningham

Vice President

Ryan Cunningham is a Vice President in the Public Affairs division of The Glover Park Group, where his client portfolio includes the bulk of the firm’s rapidly expanding environmental practice. His current and past client work includes strategic communications counsel and execution for the Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate and Oceans programs, the World Wildlife Fund, Verizon, the Alliance for Climate Protection, and the International Conservation Partners.

Cunningham has developed and managed integrated communications strategies for association, non-profit and corporate clients. He coordinated message strategy, online communications and third party recruitment for World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour, a worldwide “lights out” event to call attention to global warming. He works closely with Vice President Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection on the We campaign, an integrated effort to mobilize the American public on climate change issues and has coordinated earned media outreach for a coalition led by the Grocery Manufacturers Association and anti-hunger organizations to halt ‘food-to-fuel’ mandates.

Prior to his work at The Glover Park Group, Cunningham served in the public affairs practice at Burson-Marsteller, where his clients included USAID’s Global Development Alliance, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, VF Corporation and AstraZeneca. In 2004, he served as Executive Director of the Kerry-Edwards Transition Planning Team, a group of media, legal, campaign and political experts that convened in advance of the 2004 presidential election. In 2003, Cunningham helped write and research the book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right by Al Franken.

Cunningham serves on the board of directors of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment. He earned a master’s degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and received a B.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin.
