Chip Smith is the CEO and a Managing Director of The Glover Park Group. Also a Founding Partner, Smith has led the firm from start-up to one of the nation’s fastest-growing, respected, independent communication companies. He has guided the firm through a number of critical expansions, including its strategic partnership with Svoboda Collins LLC. In addition to directing the operations of the company, Smith continues to counsel clients on corporate communications, reputation management, and advertising. Smith offers The Glover Park Group’s clients savvy business expertise and keen political insight. He has led a diverse portfolio of projects including a multi-year reputation management program for Pfizer, a rebranding of the World Wildlife Fund, and the successful fight to bring baseball back to Washington D.C.
Over nearly two decades, Smith has worked in both the public and private sectors, providing communications and strategic services to a broad range of clients, including leading corporations, non-profits, industry associations, and candidates for political office. Prior to starting the firm, Smith was Deputy Campaign Manager for Vice President Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. As a member of the senior strategic team, he designed, built, and directed the campaign’s day-to-day operations and served as the campaign’s Chief Operating Officer.
From 1996 to 2000, Smith was the Chief of Staff at MCI and an Executive Director of Strategy and Communications. There, he directed external and internal communications and overall messaging to Wall Street, industry analysts, media, regulators, customers, shareholders, and employees. Before joining MCI, Smith was an Executive Vice President at Shrum, Devine & Donilon, Inc., a leading political media and public relations consulting firm. There he helped conceive, produce, and place media in nine winning U.S. Senate campaigns and seven winning congressional campaigns. Smith began his career as a legislative assistant to Senator Wyche Fowler Jr.
A native of Atlanta, Smith received a B.A. with distinction in American studies from Colby College and an MBA from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.
