He comes to GPG with an impressive background in both Public Affairs and public service. He most recently served as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy. In this capacity, he was as a geopolitical analyst specializing in the Pacific region and was deployed twice aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln as collection manager for the aircraft carrier strike group. In January 2005, he earned the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his work during tsunami relief operations off the coast of Indonesia. During Operation Unified Assistance, he led a detachment ashore in Banda Aceh to provide daily briefings to military and civilian humanitarian relief leadership - including US, Australian, UK and Indonesian militaries; USAID; the United Nations; and various non-governmental organizations. Before being assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln, Kauffmann served as Intelligence Liaison for a Department of Defense program developing uses for unmanned aerial vehicles where he earned the Joint Service Achievement Medal. Prior to joining the military, Kauffmann served as Press Secretary for Senator Hillary Clinton. In the 2000 election cycle, Kauffmann was Press Secretary for the 2000 New York State Coordinated Campaign. He has also served as a Deputy Press Secretary at the Democratic National Committee.
