Kim James is a Vice President with the Glover Park Group, specializing in government affairs and strategic communications. Ms. James brings to bear extensive Capitol Hill, political experience and a strong track record in media relations.
Before joining The Glover Park Group, Ms. James spent nearly four years as a lobbyist for The Harbour Group, where she managed legislative campaigns for a variety of clients. Ms. James has spent fifteen years in Democratic politics most recently serving as Communications Director for U.S. Senator Bob Graham of Florida, where she is credited with dramatically raising the Senator’s national profile during her six years of service. As the office’s chief spokesperson and media advisor, she was responsible for all strategic communications planning around short and long-term legislative and political goals. When Senator Graham assumed the Chairmanship of the Senate Intelligence Committee in January 2001, Ms. James was the point person for all related media inquiries and conducted active outreach to key national security and intelligence reporters. During her tenure she also designed and executed media campaigns on issues such as prescription drugs, the environment, tax policy and immigration.
Prior to joining Senator Graham’s staff, she served as Press Secretary for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and in that capacity advised thirty-five incumbent, challenger, and open-seat Senate candidates during the tumultuous 1994 election cycle.
Ms. James first became involved in political campaigns during 1992, the “Year of the Woman,” when she served as Deputy Press Secretary for Lynn Yeakel of Pennsylvania, one of the highest-visibility campaigns during that election cycle. She directed the campaign’s day-to-day media operation, and helped Yeakel, a political novice at the time, nearly unseat a well-funded Senate veteran.
Ms. James’ considerable Capitol Hill background also includes positions with former U.S. Senator Alan Cranston and the Democratic Policy Committee under former Majority Leader George Mitchell.
A native of Massachusetts, Ms. James received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Tufts University and lives with her husband and two children on Capitol Hill.
